Veteran’s Took Charge

As many are aware, our United States government has shut down. Plain and simple, some benefits will stop, people are pissed off, and WW2 Veterans took charge today!

In the month of October (31 days), I will be taking on the role of posting something significant that happened that day. Well, it is October 1, 2013 and what happened on October 1 that everyone is (or should be) aware of? That’s right, a government shutdown. Congratulations politicians, well done! (sarcasm)

This evening, I watched many videos of what a bunch of WW2 Veterans and bystanders did in Washington. Below are just a couple of video’s of today’s actions:

One thing that caught my attention in a video was a group of WW2 veterans who visited Washington were part of what is called Honor Flight. If you are not familiar with what Honor Flight does, that essentially send a WW2 Veteran and a sponsor (family member) to visit Washington’s Memorial, along with a few other things, all expenses paid. I am familiar with this because my grandad is a WW2 Veteran and we (my father and I) have thought of taking him to Washington to see the Memorial. Unfortunately, due to his age and health, he is more than likely to attend. But I know if he were there today, he would have done the same thing (and he would have done it proudly!)  Most WW2 Veteran’s are between the ages of 80-99, with many who will never get this chance again. These Honor Flight recipients get this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit this site, and to have a government shutdown and not allow them to see what they came to see… well, that is just not right!

Who does the government think they are to barricade something of such significance? No matter what situation EVER occurs within our government, there should NEVER be a thought in anyone’s mind to not allow people (especially veteran’s) to see what so many fought and died for!

If you have been to war, then you know exactly what I am talking about. If not, I’m sure you still feel the same way. A memorial is the resting place for those that gave their lives or lost their lives due to enemy combatants. Nothing will stop those that want to see what they want to see, especially something as significant as the WW2 Memorial.

My hat goes off to all those Veteran’s and bystanders that took a stand today in Washington and said “NO!”
